Due to changes in the school curriculum only two schools were
able to take part in the 2002 competition,
so the organisers decided to close the competition for 2003, looking
to run a revised competition from Jan '04. During 2003, however,
the two project coordinators - our Social History Officer and Education
Officer - both left the Museum...
.. So we're sorry, there is no revised City History Awards Scheme
for 2004.
We apologise to all those who logged-on to this page in January
expecting to hear about the new competition - but we hope you appreciate
the problems we might have been having. We hope that competition
regulars in particular will appreciate how this staff shortage will
have hit us, coinciding as it did with the closure of the Museum
of Local Life and the associated reorganisation of the Museum's
Social History collections - which is an ongoing process. However,
a new Social History Officer is in post and we hope to have a new
Education Officer by the summer.....so the aim of organising a new
competition has not been abandoned, just delayed.
While this is bad news, we are still able to upload onto this web
site useful new information for you to use - so watch out for new
items on our On-line Resources
page ( we've also listed some Recently Added History Resources on
the right) - and of course our Collections
Team and Archaeology Service
are only too glad to offer any advice and help they can regarding
this type of project.
We will be leaving these City History Award pages up until we have
resolved the issue of a new competition, and in honour of all the
winners and participants who have shown such a love and interest
in the history of where they live - congratulations to you all.
