Have you ever wondered what your appearance
might have been like if you were to be transported back to Victorian
times as a Lady or Gentleman of the house, a servant or maid, or
child in the past?
Between Monday
2nd December and Friday 6th December 2002 Worcester City Museums
& Art Gallery and Worcester College of Technology teamed up to offer
people the chance to take that step in time, and have a costume
and make-over the Victorian way! The cost of a make-over, including
a picture and a copy of this on disk, cost £3.50.
In
preparation for this project called 'Upstairs, Downstairs',
2nd year students from the School
of Art & Design HND course in Theatrical & Media Make-Up
& Costume spent the previous term busily researching Victorian
fashion and beauty, making Victorian style costumes and learning
about hairstyles and cosmetics which were popular in the past.
Costumes made:
Lady of the House
Gentleman of the House
Lady's Maid
Girl's costume
Wigs
made:
Lady's wig with ringlets & hair pieces
Maid's wig with bun
Muttonchop side burns
Handlebar moustache
Small moustaches
Little girl's ragged wig
Everyone
who took part
had a great time, and the Museum would like to thank the students
for all their hard work and committment during the course
of the project.
Special thanks
for organsiing and supervising
the students are due to the College's
Costume Lecturer, Barbara Davis; Hair & Make-up Lecturer,
Michelle Taylor, and; Technician, Steve Chambers.
The
Museum hopes to repeat this Victorian Time Trip next year
- so get ready!
