Rush on Them - Parodies in Paper- A traveling exhibition
of new work by Peter Rush. 10th July - 5th September
The
exhibition includes life size, smaller cased and interactive
sculptures. Highlighting Peter's departure from gentle humour
into the more acerbic arena of parody and satire, many public
figures who have been given the Rush treatment will be recognisable
instantly. But something more sinister has crept into the plot.
Jolly exteriors disguise intimidation, menace and threat. All
is not what it seems.
As always, Peter's applied magic manages to pinpoint human frailty,
while at the same time zooming in on the mesmerising power of
the bully, a combination which in politics may ensure success
and recognition, but equally hides a fragile ego. In us, the
viewers, fear awe and pity fight for supremacy. Are we really
frightened into submission by 'them' or merely taken in by spin?
A book, 'Rush on Paper' will accompany the exhibition (priced
£12.50), published by the artist and providing an overview of
Peter's sculpture whilst offering a comprehensive insight into
the unique paper technique which is the foundation of his work.
