A Prospect of Worcester The Eighteenth Century City
6 March – 17 July 2010
Detail from and 18th Century vista of Worcester.
Inspired by the painting of the same title, the Prospect of Worcester charts the fortunes of Worcester through the eighteenth century from the years of recovery after the Battle of Worcester to the dawn of the Victorian city.
Pieces from the art, archaeology and social history collections tell stories of transformation and transition. The first, a tale of civic pride, untold wealth and a new opportunity. The second, a darker story of declining industries and an emerging urban poor.
