Background
Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery is one of two museums run by Worcester City Council and is housed in a Grade II listed building, purpose built and opened in 1896.

Art Gallery exhibition of historical work from the collection, Family Lines, alongside contemporary photographer Paul Jones’ exhibition The Poetry of the Image. |
Worcester City Art Gallery has two main temporary exhibition spaces, the Art Gallery (which includes the smaller Watercolour Gallery where light can be excluded) and the Smaller Exhibition Space.
The Art Gallery was significantly refurbished in 1995 with funding from the Arts Lottery Fund, creating lighter, more spacious and more flexible spaces which provide a good experience for visitors, artists and staff.
The Art Gallery runs a programme of temporary exhibitions which aims to encompass visual arts, craft, photography, live art, film and new media as well as traditional and historical work. The gallery has established a reputation for innovative, ambitious and accessible exhibitions across a balanced programme appealing to different audiences.

Smaller exhibition space exhibition A Taste of History, curated from the collection. |
The Smaller Exhibition Space hosts slightly longer exhibitions, mostly drawn from the City’s collections and including contributions from partners across the county, both individuals and organisations.
As well as these two main areas, the Art Gallery & Museum has a changing programme of selling work by craft makers in two Craftcases, and works with artists and artist groups on innovative projects that integrate art into all elements of the Art Gallery & Museum.
The exhibition programme at Worcester City Art Gallery is funded by Worcester City Council. |
