The Circle Press was set up in 1967 by Ron King, a prolific
printmaker and book artist. The group was based around Ron King's
workshop in Notting Hill and the name was chosen to reflect
Ron's vision of a group of like-minded artists, working together
within a shared supportive framework.
Several people have had a long standing relationship with the
press and in particular, Ian Tyson and John Christie, but it
is Ron King's personality which has shaped it. He has always
been driven by his conviction to only publish work which reaches
its optimum in a printed form. The collection includes prints,
posters, books and book spreads.
In
2000, Ron King met Stephen Belinfante - Inspector for the Arts
in Schools in Worcestershire whereupon Ron offered to
lend part of his unique collection of prints and books
to Worcestershire County Council, as a teaching collection.
Selected parts of the Circle Press Collection are available
for schools in the County of Worcestershire to borrow,
while other parts of the collection are available for
use at Worcester City Art & Gallery & Museum.
