The outline of the old medieval city wall can clearly be seen to the east of the High Street, reflected in the line of City Walls Road. The Cathedral and Bishops Palace dominate the high ground at the southern end of the city where previously a small Iron Age community is believed to have lived within a defended enclosure. The Commandery can be seen in the "green" area to the southeast, lying just outside the medieval city's Sidbury Gate - which was situated where the present road bridge crosses the Birmingham & Worcester canal.
