Diglis Canal Basin (early 20th century)
by A.Troyte-Griffith
This early 20th century
picture by A.Troyte-Griffith shows Diglis Canal Basin,
which became the principal wharf area for the city in
the early 19th century. The view is dominated by the flour
mills, of which only traces now remain, after fires and
demolitions this century. The canal opened in 1815 and
gave access to the River Severn for the Diglis, Sidbury,
Blockhouse and Lowesmoor areas.
