The Old Turnpike, London Road (late 19th century)

Anonymous

The Old Turnpike, London Road, near the Battenhall Road junction of London Road was the start of the main overland route from Worcester to London. Weekly mail coaches ran from the city to the capital in the 18th century, when the road was turnpiked. Extensive suburbs developed on Green Hill and Red Hill in the 18th and 19th centuries.
