Bransford Road, St John's (1910)

by E.A. Phipson

The St John's end of Bransford Road is sometimes still referred to as the Green. Here each year in the medieval period, a fair was held on the Friday before Palm Sunday, a custom which was revived for a time in 1770. There were several timber-framed cottages along the road, some of which feature in this painting by E.A. Phipson of 1910. Little now remains.
