Grosvenor Walk, St John's (before 1979)
Anonymous
St John's remained outside
the city boundary until 1837. In medieval times it was
a busy road junction with timber-framed houses clustering
around the church. By the 19th century it had expanded
considerably with large houses in spacious grounds, especially
along Henwick Road, and many streets and lanes of small
cottages. These Victorian cottages in Grosvenor Walk are
shown prior to renovation in 1979.
