On the west side of the River Severn the suburb of St John's was linked to the medieval bridge by Tybridge Street. Few pre-20th century buildings remain in Tybridge or Hylton Road which runs alongside the river. This photograph taken c.1930 shows the Bear Inn on the junction of the two roads.
