22 Lich Street (1902)

by E.A.Phipson

The back of 22 Lich Street in 1902 by E.A.Phipson. The buildings of most city centre streets were on long narrow plots with a short street frontage. These burgage plots were laid out in medieval times, and allowed for each premises to have a shop front and living accommodation with yards and workshops behind. Many of the yards became increasingly built up in Georgian and Victorian times.
