Fish Street (1902)

by E.A.Phipson

Fish Street was bisected by Deansway at the site of the medieval Fishmongers' Hall which was demolished in 1905. Its large timber-framed gable is the main feature of this view by E.A.Phipson dated 1902. Fish Street was known as Corviser Street in the medieval period and was the area occupied by cordwainers or leather workers. The buildings in view further east along the street still survive today.
