South end of High Street (1930's)
by F.Barribal
The south end of High Street
in the 1930's by F.Barribal. As today, this scene is dominated
by the Cathedral and the large house, College Grates,
which takes its name from a second medieval entrance into
the Cathedral close from the north on this site. The buildings
to the left were replaced by the roundabout, and the statue
of Sir Edward Elgar now stands where the children are
shown playing, close to the site of the Elgar family's
music shop.
