St Paul's Church (before 1988)
Anonymous
St Paul's Church was completed
in 1887 to designs by A.E.Street. It is one of few remaining
Victorian buildings in the Blockhouse and is well-known
for its associations with Rev. G.A.Studdert-Kennedy, or
'Woodbine Willie'. During the First World War, he became
famous as a Chaplain for handing out Woodbine cigarettes
along with bibles to troops in the trenches. These views
show the interior of this church much as it would have
been when Studdert-Kennedy was vicar and before substantial
alterations were made in 1988 to adapt the church for
current worship.
