Queen Elizabeth House (before 1891)
by E.A.Phipson

Queen Elizabeth House before its re-siting in 1891, by E.A.Phipson. This 15th century galleried timber-framed building was part of the almshouses of the Trinity Hospital. The alley beneath the building is Trinity Passage, now the Trinity at this point. Local legend claims that Queen Elizabeth I addressed the people of Worcester from the balcony, but she is more likely to be connected with the building through an endowment to the hospital. The present Queen Elizabeth Almshouses are situated in Upper Tything.
