Little London (1903)

by E.A.Phipson

Little London runs south-east from Upper Tything around the grounds of the Royal Grammar School and the site of the nunnery of Whistones. The name was generally given to a group of buildings in a rural area and may be associated with a late medieval tiling industry here. In 1903 when E.A.Phipson painted the street, it had groups of attractive cottages.
