The Saracen's Head in The Tything had a large bowling green behind during the 19th century, which has since been built over. Sansome Walk which runs parallel to The Tything and Foregate Street was established in the 18th century as a promenade for this elegant suburb. The obelisk from the north end can still be found in the grounds of St Oswald's Hospital.
