Foregate Street (early 19th century)

Anonymous

An early 19th century print of Foregate Street looking south towards St Nicholas Church. In 1556 Leland described the street as "a long fayre surburbe by Northe without the Fore- Gate"; but after serious damage during the Civil War the area fell into decline to be rebuilt as the fine Georgian street seen here.
