The City Walls by Old St Martin Church (1878)

Anonymous

This sketch, done in 1878, shows the church of Old St Martin and in the background the tower of St. Swithin, beyond a small piece of sandstone walling which would appear to be part of the city wall as it ran parallel to Silver Street and Queen Street. It is a remarkable early record of the wall at this point where the City Walls Road now passes.
