West end of the Cathedral from the Water Gate (early 19th century)

by T. Pennethorne

The prebendal houses which incorporated the remains of the monastic infirmary and reredorter were demolished from 1843 and the present gardens laid out. The tall pinnacles were erected in the early 18th century and were gradually removed after 1832. This view was painted by T. Pennethorne in the early 19th century.
