South Quay looking up Copenhagen Street in the 1920's. St Andrew's
church spire can be seen in the background. The church was demolished
during the 1940's, although the 18th century spire was retained. St
Andrew's Institute was formerly the Wherry Inn which was a popular
Waterman's haunt during the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1923 the inn
was converted into the St Andrews Institute, a men's social club but
only survived until the 1930's when the area was cleared. Today the
area has been developed into public gardens, while the technical college
car park occupies the right hand side.
