The Market Hall High Street entrance during the 1930's
The Market Hall High Street entrance during the 1930's. The hall was built in 1804 opposite the Guildhall and ran between the High Street and the Shambles. However an extra wing opened in 1881 and ran through to Pump Street, the entrance of which can still be seen today. The only remnant left of the hall in the High street is a clock which was given by Richard Padmore in 1849. Although it is not pictured, the clock hung for many years over the hall entrance and today can still be seen hanging over the entrance of the new City Arcade.
