The Arcade Cinema between Church Street and St Swithins Street
circa 1925. The cinema opened in1912 but only ran until the1930's
when it was purchased by the Gaumont British Picture Co. and closed.
The Gaumont cinema opened shortly afterwards in Foregate Street as
a replacement. Today the building houses a part of Superdrug although
it has been stripped of its original decorative features leaving it
as an unrecognisable descendent of the cinema. |
