bullet point Room 1 both introduces and concludes the exhibition. Here you can learn the difference between an infantryman and a Yeoman, what a Regiment is and see what the first Worcestershire Soldiers looked like before embarking on your tour of the centuries.

As you leave you can discover what the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment is doing today, find out how some the Worcestershire Regiment's fine traditions live on and see some of the medals and badges it has collected in it's 300 years of service. In this room you will also be able to browse a computer database to find out more about the Regiment and Yeomanry. You can also see the spectacular painting of the Yeomanry on parade at Kempsey Ham in 1838 and various Regimental and Yeomanry Colours which are preserved on the walls. Visitors will also be able to enjoy our programme of special exhibitions which will be put on throughout the year.

The Worcestershire Soldier - The badge of the Worcestershire Regiment - Click on image for more information The Regimental Badge - The Star of the regimental badge was taken from the Order of the Garter by Colonel Farrington, founder of the 29th Regiment of Foot. Farrington had originally been an officer in the Coldstream Guard and kept the Star for his new Regiment. This led to the Regimental nickname 'Guards of the Line'. The 36th Regiment of Foot also used a star in their badge, which they used to wear on their backpacks. To find out more about the Regiment's badge and other nicknames - click here.

Over the coming year the on-line exhibition preview featured here will be extended to include most of the items on display - as well as many photographs and objects from the Reserve Collections which we are unable to display.

Eventually, each part of the exhibition will have its own set of on-line pages, with additional themes or headings being added as research on the Collections progresses.

In addition, it is intended that the Audio Visual show and audio recordings available to on-site visitors will also be made available to our web visitors as playable or downloadable resources.

The modern successor unit to the Worcestershire Yeomanry Cavalry is the 67th (Queen's Own Warwickshire and Worcestershire Yeomanry) Signals Squadron - click here to visit their web site at http://www.army.mod.uk/royalsignals/67sigsqn/.
