Since
1989 the Museums and Art Gallery have collected objects using
guidelines set out in the Acquisition and Disposal Policy. This
City Council Document is continually revised with the next version
to be produced by the end of 2001. It contains details of the
policy to collect 'relating to the history and environment of
that area governed by the District Council of Worcester, and
to the lives of people who have lived and worked within that
boundary'.
There
are, however, wider geographical considerations for the Natural
History and Geology collections and wider conceptual issues
involved with the Art collection.
The Policy sets out the codes of good practice adopted by the
Museum, its relationships with other museums. It also explores
the active ways in which the Museum seeks to expand and rationalise
collections, taking into account spatial and conservation requirements.
The Museum and Art Gallery staff are always pleased to know
of and discuss the possibilities of acquiring material for the
collections by donation, purchase, and occasionally on loan,
within the terms of the Acquisition and Disposal Policy. Information
on who to contact can be found in How to
access the Collections.
